Universal Lighting Technologies has added to its family of EVERLINE products with the new EVERLINE Surge Protectors, capable of managing a surge of up to 20kV. Inserted between line voltage and the LED driver/module or ballast/lamp system, LED lighting surge protection provide system-wide protection, eliminating the need for internal fixture components that are rated to handle large spikes in input voltage.
The increased use of LED based lighting in outdoor applications introduces unique challenges to fixture reliability. While fixture components are designed to handle variations in input power, being connected directly to the main power lines introduces complications when it comes to power surges. Because lightning strikes, switching and other events can be far more severe directly on the power lines, these components need additional protection. An LED surge suppressor protects your most sensitive components against line surges and transients. EVERLINE Surge Protectors are C3 surge location rated, providing surge protection up to 20kV and are available for 277V and 480V applications.
This item is the Universal EVERLINE SS10-277. For use with 277 volt line voltage, the SS10-277 has Surge protection according to IEEE C62.41.2 C-High and is surge location rated category C3. This unit is rated to 10kV maximum surge voltage and has a 840V clamping voltage. The high temperature plastic enclosure is designed to operate to 185®F / 85®C maximum case temperature. It is CSA listed, UL recognized and RoHS Compliant.
When transients are present, the surge protector clamps the voltage to a safe level for the LED driver and fixture components. As transients are mitigated, this product is degraded and will need to be replaced over time. When exhausted, they can be easily replaced in the field for continuous protection.
