A commercial building's emergency and exit light requirements mandate active lights in egress exit routes. Emergency light fixtures automatically switch on when power goes out to illuminate pathways toward egress exits. Universal Lighting's 7.5W Emergency LED Driver for downlight applications (ELD7UNVL) works perfectly for LED downlights. This universal input (120-277V) emergency LED driver works in conjunction with an AC LED driver that has an output current not to exceed 3.0A, to convert new or existing LED fixtures into emergency lighting. The emergency driver consists of a high-temperature nickel-cadmium battery, charger and electronic circuitry in one compact case. When AC power fails, the driver immediately switches to the emergency mode, operating the LEDs at a reduced lumen output. The ELD7UNVL can deliver up to 7.5 watts to an LED load for 90 minutes. When AC power is restored, the emergency driver automatically returns to the charging mode. It takes 24 hours for the battery to completely recharge. If used in an emergency-only fixture, then no AC driver is necessary.
The ELD7UNVL does not affect normal fixture operation and may be used with either a switched or unswitched fixture. If a switched fixture is used, an unswitched hot lead must be connected to the emergency driver. The emergency driver must be fed from the same branch circuit as the AC driver. The ELD7UNVL may be installed on top of the fixture. Installation is not recommended with fixtures where the ambient temperature may fall below 0°C. The product is suitable for indoor and damp locations and for sealed & gasketed fixtures, including fixtures rated for wet locations. The ELD7UNVCL LED downlight emergency driver is not suitable for air handling heated air outlets and wet or hazardous locations. An illuminated test switch to monitor the charger and battery, as well as installation hardware will be included. These LED drivers carry a 5 year limited warranty.
